Space: a dream I had

I stared out at the emptiness before me before glancing back at the planet I was circling. According to the ship's sensors, there was a planet with people on it out there. I could go for it. I could try. The only thing is it would take a long time.

I input the coordinates and took my ship out of the orbit I had known for so long. The life support system kept me alive. My breath the only thing I could hear in the silence. I faded in and out of long sleep, letting the ship do most of the work. Each time I surfaced to consciousness, I felt a hollowness. A space organism, plant, or something that was already inside of me was eating away. My fingers had transparent spots. What could I do though? I had nothing. Could do nothing. I sat back and just continued the journey.

The ship's year log kept counting up.

My ship landed and I emerged. Thousand of years were traversed. I was empty and weak. The world was full of life and hope.

I dragged myself through the bushes. One foot at a time. Searching for anything. Any civilization.

Under a leaf I found a marker. People had been here. I pulled a leaf off the bush and wrote out a message.

"I'm writing this probably thousands of years since there was civilization here. If anyone finds this, please know I existed."
